PREPARED TO SURVIVE

Rich Johnson

RICH JOHNSON
Rich Johnson has had an interest in outdoor survival ever since his days as a Special Forces soldier. After military service, he decided that he wanted to open a survival school that focussed on the non-military aspects of staying alive in the wilderness. In preparation, he spent more than a year deep in research of the ethnobotany and other aspects of life of primitive peoples, Then he and his wife took their 1-year-old son and 3-year old daughter to live in the wilderness of southern Utah, dwelling in a cave, a wikiup and other shelters during a year-long research project. The purpose of all this was to hone his skills, so he could teach not from what he had read, but from what they had lived and experienced.Rich started writing for a variety of outdoor magazines and this led to a full-time career in journalism that has spanned more than 25 years. Among other things, Rich is currently the Survival Writer for Outdoor Life Magazine and also writes the Outdoorsman column for Camping Life Magazine. He spends as much time as possible outdoors.

WHAT OTHERS
ARE SAYING

Everyone wants to tell you what to bring with you when you go out into the wilderness; here is an excellent DVD that shows you how to use all that gear.

Self-reliance has been a large part of what keeps me attracted to the outdoors. You never know what will be thrown at you out there, and I need to be (and enjoy being) ready, willing, and able to deal with it. Prepared To Survive will take you a long way toward self-reliance if you lack the skills, and a long way further if you already possess some of the skills.

We have long held the view that a person who enters the wilderness with some forethought as to what could go wrong and comes up with possible answers to those situations is much more likely to react with a cool head, thus making survival a lot more likely. Prepared to Survive is such forethought- it makes you think about the possibilities and gives you answers to some of those nagging questions. It can happen to all of us, and perhaps a lot more people would have survived their ordeals had they seen this video.
