SOG SEAL REVOLVER
Sog Revolver

A unique design
Product tests can be quite revealing. I'll have to admit, when we were first introduced to the Revolver we were a little skeptical. Nevertheless, out we went to see how well this knife/saw performs. After an hour or so of use we were a bit surprised to find that a human powered saw of relatively modest size could cut so quickly and easily.

We were able to cut a 1-inch branch to size in less than a minute and a small tree 2¼ inches in diameter down in less than two. Pretty nice if you need a ridgepole for a shelter and the sun is going down. Obviously, it would have taken considerably more time and energy to hack through a tree of this size with a knife.

The knife is typical SOG quality construction with a shape reminiscent of the Seal Pup Elite. Splitting branches lengthwise with a baton or making a feather stick out of fatwood posed no problem. The blade has a forward thumbrest on the back that provides additional control.

Sog Seal RevolverThe textured handle locks in place by means of a steel pin placed through a hole in the unused blade. Depressing a button on the handle releases the pin and allows the blade to revolve into the other position. Although this system seems well thought out and secure while locked, when unlocked, the operator should exercise caution as the blade is being rotated into the new position. Both the saw and the blade are very sharp. A lanyard and a Kydex sheath are included.

In Conclusion
Frankly, we were impressed at how much utility a tool of this type could possess. The saw undeniably speeds up the process of obtaining suitable branches or trees for shelter and firewood. When everything is wet and you need a fire, this tool can saw through standing dead wood, change positions, and split what's been cut to reveal the dry wood inside. And I'm sure that hunters would find it to be useful in field dressing game. The knife blade performed all tasks well and retained a sharp edge. If you can have a saw as a companion to your knife with no additional size or weight penalty, why wouldn't you?
