| FIRST AID BASICS It’s important for everyone to have a working knowledge of basic first aid and a first aid kit suitable for their environment, activity and group size. We offer professionally designed first aid kits in sizes and styles that are not only appropriate for most outdoor activities, but are also well-suited for the home, car or boat. We encourage you to assess your first aid kit carefully to determine if you need to add additional items specific to your environment or your personal needs. If you are allergic to bee stings for instance, you’ll want to have something that will treat an anaphylactic reaction. First-Aid is different in a wilderness survival situation than it is at home. In a survival situation you may need to stabilize the patient’s condition for an extended period of time before professional help arrives. It's a good idea to carry the most comprehensive first aid kit you can. First aid kits qualify as an approved purchase for most health care flexible spending accounts. |

Why first aid is first
Your first priority in a survival situation is to treat any injuries the best you can with what you have and what you know. Stabilizing the injury will allow you to concentrate on getting out of the situation you are in and minimize the distractions of medical problems.
First do no harm
First do no harm is the best approach to rendering medical assistance in a survival situation. Knowing the limitations of what you can and should do will keep you from making the situation worse.
Priority of Injury Treatment
1. Restore and maintain breathing and/or heartbeat
2. Stop bleeding
3. Bandage wounds and burns
4. Repair bone fractures
5. Treat shock
