Think of Type 1 parachute cord as a miniature 550 cord. It's made of the same materials but in a more compact size with a tensile strength of 100 pounds. Similar to the Type 3-550 paracord, Type 1 has a braided outer sheath with five individual strands inside. And like our 550 cord, we only offer genuine Mil-C-5040 Type 1 cord manufactured to military specifications. Our 550 cord is manufactured to military specifications, not to commercial specifications which tend to be less rigorous.


This is the perfect cord to include in your survival kit, waistpack or backpack. Type 1 cord is small enough to fit most anywhere, strong enough to be useful for a variety of tasks and light enough that you won't even know that you're carrying it. It's also handy to have for routine use around the camp, house or boat.
