The MIOX purifier takes a unique approach to rendering water safe from pathogens-salt and electricity. An established treatment method, the MIOX first creates brine from untreated fresh water and salt. Then the unit delivers an electrical charge through the solution releasing a large dose of mixed oxidents (MIOX). The resulting solution is then poured into your untreated water, inactivating viruses, bacteria, Giardia, Cryptosporidium and other microorganisms. Make sure that you allow the appropriate amount of time after treatment before drinking.

Developed in association with the US military, the MIOX will treat a significant volume of water, yet is small enough to fit in your pocket and weighs only 8 ounces including batteries, salt, test strips and storage sack. The two 123A lithium batteries included with the MIOX will purify 200+ liters of water. Also included is 1 oz. of rock salt-enough to treat approx. 200 liters of water and 50 test strips. The MIOX uses any food grade salt in granule, rock or crystal form.
To use, fill your container with water and note the volume, pour a small amount of water into the purifier chamber, replace the cap and shake 15-30 times. After shaking, confirm that the chamber is a least ¾ full of the salt solution and then press the activation button either 1, 2, 3, 4 times depending on the volume of water to be treated. Next, pour the solution into your container, shake to mix and use the safety strips to confirm that the treatment was adequate. The final step is to pour some treated water on the cap threads, close the cap and wait 15 minutes to properly treat viruses and bacteria, 30 minutes to treat Giardia and 4 hours to treat Cryptosporidium.
